Invitation to join a hospice choir

You are invited to join a hospice choir I am directing this spring. Please consider sharing your voice and heart in the rewarding work of singing at the bedside of someone in fragile physical and emotional condition.

Communicating love and care to someone who is struggling with life and death takes a heart full of compassion, attentive eyes, a kind face and a voice strong enough to be vulnerable. Doing this work brings meaningful life lessons – I hope you are ready to receive them.

If you are interested, please continue reading about orientation, rehearsals and bedside visits. If you know of someone who may be interested in this, please forward this to them.

Being present with someone at this fragile and sensitive time requires some training. I am partnering with AseraCare Hospice and their Volunteer Coordinator will be providing the requisite classroom and online orientation to become a hospice volunteer. Other requirements are a criminal background check, drug test, and mantoux testing – at no cost to you.

To prepare musically, rehearsals will be every Monday night starting in January and held in St. Paul’s Merriam Park. In February the choir starts to alternate between rehearsals and visiting AseraCare patients in Minneapolis or St. Paul. Singers are expected to attend most rehearsals and one bedside visit a month after completing AseraCare’s volunteer training.

A maximum of 20 singers will be accepted to develop an intimate group. To join the membership roster, please contact me at pointsoflightmusic@gmail.com. If you have questions, please send me an email with your name, a way to contact you and your interest in this work.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you consider joining me in doing this beautiful work.
